At 12:03 on May 19.2021, China has successfully launched the HY-2D satellite using the Long March 4B carrier rocket at Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. This signifies China’s ocean dynamic environmental satellite has entered 3 satellites network generation. 

HY-2D is a marine operational satellite supported by the Medium and Long-term Development Plan of National Civil Space Infrastructure and built under the auspices of the Ministry of Natural Resources. After entering the orbit, it will form a network with the on-orbit HY-2B and HY-2C, build China’s first ocean dynamic environmental satellite constellation, form an all-weather, all-day, high-frequency, medium and large-scale global monitoring system of ocean dynamic environment, this will provide precise ocean dynamic environmental information for the waring and forecasting of marine disaster, continuously developing and utilizing marine resource, effectively dealing with global climate change, conducting marine scientific research.

HY-2D and the Long March 4B carrier rocket was built by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation which belongs to China Academy of Space Technology and Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology separately.

This mission is Long march series carrier rockets’ 370th flight.
