Successful Launch of the New Generation Ocean Color Observation Satellite

At 11:55 November 16th, China has successfully launched the new generation ocean color observation satellite using the Long March 2C carrier rocket at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. This marks the official upgrade of China's ocean color series satellite to the second generation observation system, significantly enhancing China's capability to observe the information of global ocean color environmental elements.

The new generation ocean color observation satellite is the first batch of scientific research  satellite in the National Civil Space Infrastructure Medium and Long-term Development Plan (2015-2025). It features high resolution, wide coverage, multi-spectral bands, and high spectral detection capabilities, reaching the international advanced level.Compared with the first generation of China's ocean color satellite in terms of load configuration, function and performance indicators, it has been greatly improved and can achieve rapid coverage and observation of global ocean color information. In terms of payload configuration, functional performance indicators, and other aspects, there have been significant improvements and enhancements compared to China's first-generation ocean color satellite, enabling rapid coverage observation of global ocean color information.

It has seen significant improvements and upgrades in payload configuration and functional performance compared to China's first generation ocean color satellite, enabling rapid coverage observation of global ocean color information and reaching international advanced levels.

The new generation ocean color observation satellite has the capability to operate in conjunction with HY-1C and HY-1D in orbit. The satellite-configured Ocean Color and Temperature Scanner, Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer, Coastal Zone Imager and Automatic Identification System can produce remote sensing thematic products such as marine environment monitoring, marine disaster prevention, island and coastal zone survey, dynamic monitoring of sea area usage, protection of marine rights and interests, exploitation and utilization of marine fishery resources, global climate change, and marine scientific research.

The National Satellite Ocean Application Service has further improved the quality and application effectiveness of data products by upgrading and replacing ground application systems. Satellite application products will enter the main marine business system, providing technical support for the development of China's marine economy and the protection and restoration of marine ecological environments. At the same time, it meets the demand from multiple domestic users for high-quality ocean color remote sensing applications, serving industries such as ecological environment, transportation and meteorology.
